Melissa and I are now back in Rio after spending a week in Buzios. It is an upscale beach town about 2 hrs north of Rio. I've added pictures to my online photo album (see the new link on the right).
Buzios is really an amazing spot. Beautiful beaches, great weather, and very tropical. I don't think I've been to such nice beaches since we were in Australia.
Thanks to the incredible hospitality of our Brasilian hosts, Henrique/Tatiana and Carlos/Deniza (Henrique's father and stepmother), we stayed for a week with their family in a private beach house owned by the company Carlos works for.

We also attended a swanky New Year's Eve party put on by Carlos' boss. The fireworks displays at midnight were very impressive and a little action packed as the winds kicked up and sent a few of us scattering after a few fireballs landed on the lawn we were watching from.
We arrived back here yesterday and are going to spend the next week enjoying Rio.
