Rediscovering Winter

I noticed that the blog is a bit bare. Just not a lot going on so I guess I will just have to ramble a bit. I am working on a few ideas to keep the content up though. Stay tuned.

I've been back to work now for 2 weeks with another 4 ahead of me. In order to be home for baby season (fingers crossed), Frankie (my rotational partner and alter ego) and I are doing a six and six rotation.

As is usual, I was looking forward to coming back to the comfortable monotony of 12 hour workdays to get some rest and to have things settle down a bit as my time home was really quite busy. At the end of it, I counted that we put about 4,000 KM on the truck with trips to Kimberley & Fernie for some skiing, Esterhazy for Christmas with my family, Airdrie for my nephew's baptism, and a couple of days in the US to Kalispell/Whitefish for no particular reason.

Having basically avoided winter for 3 years, it is nice re-experiencing it. I suppose it is more bearable knowing that I am always only a few weeks from heading back to the desert. One thing that I didn't miss, and got promptly reacquainted with, was winter driving.

There wasn't a great deal of snow where we live (although, that has changed since I've left), but I saw plenty in the mountains through BC and into Montana. Snow in the mountains is an amazing sight. To make the most of winter in the mountains, we purchased cross-country skis while in the US and got the chance to use them a few times. The Allison-Chinook recreation area has several kilometres of nice groomed trails and is only 5 minutes from our house. Melissa has been out several times since I've been back to work and has been enjoying herself. We hope to do more when I get home but it depends on how functional Melissa is with her expanding baby belly.
