My Winter Project

My winter project this year is to completely skip winter. A bit of an ambitious plan, but not so complicated with by work schedule and travel plans. I am now on day 90 of my project. In the end, I will have been out of Canada 164 days (Nov 29/05 to May 12/06). To this point, I haven't missed anything about winter except the thought of a couple of days skiing in the mountains. My boss, Reg, was bragging to me about all of the snow that Fernie has and how good the skiing is. I am hoping to satisfy this urge by going skiing in Dubai this week at the only indoor ski hill in the middle east (that's surprising...I would have expected indoor ski hills everywhere).

Anyways, this is what I am missing in Calgary. These are pictures Melissa sent me of the snowfall around our house.

Corner Gas

Here I am in the middle of nowhere and almost 13,000 Kms from home and I still get to watch my favourite TV show. It absolutely astounds me, but Corner Gas, a low-budget Canadian television show set in my home province of Saskatchewan, is on our satellite 3 nights a week. Check out the pictures with the arabic subtitles.

Site Stats

About a month ago, I added a script to this page that tracks visitors. I was pleasantly surprised to see that almost 30 unique users accessed this site. With that type of response, I will do my best to update regularly. Problem is that not much happens when I am here at work. I have had an extremely busy shift to this point. Unfortunately, it is not going to ease up until I leave. The normal course of my work results in me being extremely busy for about 5 days before and after a calendar month end with a slight lull in between that allows me to catch up. I am in the lull right now but it is still incredibly busy. It's only going to get worst as my shift ends March 1, the height of my workload. It's not that bad though. I just keep visions of south pacific beach islands in my head. Three weeks from today I will be sitting on one.

I've reactivated the ability to leave comments on this page. I look forward to hearing from you all.

Visit to the Doctor's Office

I made a trip to the doctor's office today (on the left). Nothing serious. I am planning on doing some scuba diving on my next off-shift and wanted to make sure my ears are clean so that I don't have a problem equalizing underwater. I have been cursed with narrow ear canals and need to get them flushed with a water syringe about every two years. I figured I'd get a free check-up from the doc. All is well and I am ok to dive.

We have both a doctor and a nurse (from Lebanon) on site at all times doing everything from very basic boo-boos to minor surgery. Check out the picture on the right. The medical cabin is fully functional as an emergency medical center. We also have an ambulance (a modified land rover) to get us the hell out of here if there is any sort of medical emergency.
